How to Build a Content Idea Engine in Notion (And Never Run Out of Posts)

Stop staring at a blank page. This simple Notion setup turns everyday thoughts into a steady stream of content.

The hardest part of content creation isn't writing — it's deciding what to write about. I fixed that by building a content idea engine in Notion, and it's been my secret weapon for consistent posting.

Start with a single database called 'Ideas'. Every time something sparks an idea — a client question, a comment on a post, a mistake I made — I dump it in. No structure, no categories. Just a title and a note. The key is to make capture as fast as possible.

Once a week, I review the raw ideas. I add a status: 'Seed', 'Growing', or 'Ready'. 'Seed' is just a spark. 'Growing' has a few bullet points. 'Ready' has an outline. I only write when an idea is 'Ready'. That way, I never start from zero.

The final piece is a template for the actual post. When I click 'Write', it creates a new page with the idea's title, a checklist for drafts and revisions, and a space for links and images. The database also tracks which platform each post is for, so I can filter by Instagram vs. blog vs. newsletter.

This system turned my sporadic posting into a reliable weekly cadence. Try it — you'll be surprised how many ideas you already have.
